Interstitial ads
Interstitial ads are ad units that can feature combinatorial ads, display ads, or video ads. These ads completely block out the app's background and pop up between a user sending out a request and receiving data in response (for example, when advancing to the next level in a video game). For detailed instructions on how to create these ad units, see here.
General recommendations on how to improve the quality of ad units are given in Improving resource quality. Below are some practical tips to help you attract more valuable traffic with interstitial ads.
Placement
-
Don't add too many ads.
-
Show only one ad at a time.
-
Don't show ads of other formats when interstitial ads are called.
-
Only show interstitial ads when the screen changes or at the start/end of a logical action — don't show them when the user is actively interacting with the app, such as during gameplay.

Controls
-
Don't close ads automatically — leave it to the user.
-
Don't use custom buttons or ad unit controls, stick to the standard kit.
